Splendido Portofino

Ci sono luoghi unici nei quali si è subito avvolti da un allure particolare, da un certo non so che che senti e respiri, ma che non è facile da definire. Lo Splendido di Portofino è uno di questi luoghi, speciale e unico. La splendida vista mare lascia incantati e in ogni angolo si respira l’eleganza e l’opulenza di un tempo incantato che abbraccia passato e presente.

Fu costruito nel Medioevo come monastero, ma poi abbandonato a causa degli attacchi saraceni. Durante la Belle Époque divenne la residenza estiva del barone Baratta che ad inizio Novecento l’ha trasformata in luxury hotel. The gli ospiti isigni che vi soggiornarono ci furono il Duca di Windsor, Wallis Simpson, Winston Churchill, Liz Taylor che adorava gli spaghetti con salsa di pomodoro e per questo, in suo onore, la carta ripropone gli Spaghetti alla Elizabeth Taylor con un tris di pomodori freschi (San Marzano, Sorrento e Pachino), Ranieri e Grace di Monaco, Liza Minnelli, Humphrey Bogart, Ava Gardner, Ringo Starr, Barbra Streisand, Rod Stewart, Valentina Cortese e Vittorio Gassman.

Negli anni Cinquanta e Sessanta l’hotel divenne luogo simbolo della Dolce Vita e la bellissima baia sulla quale si affaccia ispirò a Fred Buscaglione la famosa canzone “I found my love in Portofino” il cui refrain risuona ogni sera allo Splendido. Quest’anno è nata una magica collaborazione con la maison Dior ed è stata creata un’esperienza da vivere nel Le Jardin des Rêves che può essere rivissuta nel tempo grazie alla fragranza Escale à Portofino Édition Splendido, in edizione limitata e rivestita con la mitica Toile de Jouy in tonalità verde.

Così guardando il sole che cala all’orizzonte su questa meravigliosa baia, sorseggiando un calice di vino mi lascio cullare dalle note di Fred Buscaglione “I found my love in Portofino perché nei sogni credo ancor, lo strano gioco del destino a Portofino m’ ha preso il cuor…”.

There are unique places where we are immediately enveloped by a particular allure, by a certain something that we feel and breathe, but that is not easy to define. The Splendido in Portofino is one of these special and unique places. The splendid sea view leaves we enchanted and in every corner we can breathe the elegance and opulence of an enchanted time that embraces past and present. It was built in the Middle Ages as a monastery, but then abandoned because of Saracen attacks. During the Belle Époque it became the summer residence of Baron Baratta who at the beginning of the twentieth century transformed it into a luxury hotel. The important guests who stayed there were the Duke of Windsor, Wallis Simpson, Winston Churchill, Liz Taylor who loved spaghetti with tomato sauce and for this reason, in her honor, the menu proposes the Spaghetti Elizabeth Taylor with a trio of fresh tomatoes (San Marzano, Sorrento and Pachino), Ranieri and Grace of Monaco, Liza Minnelli, Humphrey Bogart, Ava Gardner, Ringo Starr, Barbra Streisand, Rod Stewart, Valentina Cortese and Vittorio Gassman. In the fifties and sixties the hotel became a symbol of the Dolce Vita and the beautiful bay on which it overlooks inspired Fred Buscaglione the famous song “I found my love in Portofino” whose refrain resounds every evening at the Splendido. This year a magical collaboration with the Dior maison was born and a special experience was created to live in Le Jardin des Rêves that can be relived over time thanks to the fragrance Escale à Portofino Édition Splendido, in limited edition and covered with the legendary Toile de Jouy in green tones. So looking at the sun setting on the horizon on this wonderful bay, sipping a glass of wine I let myself be lulled by the notes of Fred Buscaglione “I found my love in Portofino because in dreams I still believe, the strange game of fate in Portofino took my heart …”.
