San Domenico Palace come Four Seasons Hotel

I leggendari giardini dell’hotel San Domenico Palace per il loro primo anniversario stanno fiorendo in tutta la loro bellezza. Qui, da tempi immemorabili fino al 1860, i monaci che vivevano nel convento coltivavano piante medicinali. Four Seasons ha voluto che il famoso architetto paesaggista italiano Marco Bay ridisegnasse questi incantevoli giardini; Bay ha voluto, prima di iniziare i lavori, studiare la storia dell’hotel e della Sicilia per mantenere uno stretto legame con il passato e con le biodiversità di questa splendida terra.

Ciascuno spazio è stato pensato come fosse una stanza a sé e abbellito con caratteristiche differenti. Il cortile d’ingresso è adornato con una varietà di piante scultoree in vasi di terracotta; il Grande Chiostro, risalente al XV secolo, circonda un affascinante pozzo in pietra incorniciato da palme di diverse tonalità di verde ed è stato abbellito con un pavimento in pietra di Taormina e ciottoli intarsiati; nel Chiostro Antico con le sue colonne di pietra l’architetto ha deciso di far convivere alcuni grandi palme con il il gelsomino notturno che emana un profumo di incenso che evoca ricordi della messa domenicale; un suggestivo corridoio di Bougainville ci conduce alla spettacolare vista sullo Ionio, a destra possiamo ammirare l’Etna e a sinistra il Teatro Antico di Taormina; l’Alto Giardino sembra un quadro di un pittore impressionista con pennellate di lilla, azzurro, bianco e argento. Non può certo mancare un inebriante agrumeto con alberi da frutto tra i quali limoni, mandarini, pompelmi, un margherite bianche messicane e Frangipani. Infine nei Giardini Belvedere e Ingrid è stata creata una distesa di prato verde, perfetto per camminare a piedi nudi, incorniciata da Jacaranda mimosifolia, dall’Albero di Corallo o Albero Fiamma, dalla Ceiba speciosa, da Alberi di Aloe e palme d’argento.

Un luogo magico dove hanno soggiornato illustri scrittori, attori, nobiltà, capi d’industria e politici che ancora oggi fa sognare i suoi ospiti. La camera più seducente, con una speciale terrazza con piscina e vista panoramica mozzafiato, è la Royal Suite. Il palato sarà soddisfatto dalle squisite pietanze offerte dai vari ristoranti, una specialià è sicuramente i “RIGATONI CON LE ACCIUGHE”.

The legendary gardens of the San Domenico Palace hotel are flourishing in all their beauty for their first anniversary. Here, until 1860, the monks who lived in the convent cultivated medicinal plants. Four Seasons wanted the famous Italian landscape architect Marco Bay to redesign these enchanting gardens; Bay has studied the history of the hotel and Sicily to maintain a close link with the past and with the biodiversity of this beautiful land before starting his work. Each space has been designed was embellished with different characteristics. The entrance courtyard is adorned with a variety of sculptural plants inside terracotta pots; the Great Cloister, dating back to the fifteenth century, surrounds a charming stone water well framed by palm trees of different shades of green and has been embellished with a Taormina stone floor and inlaid pebbles; in the Ancient Cloister with stone columns the architect has decided to put together some large palm trees and the night jasmine that emanates a scent of incense that evokes memories of Sunday Mass; a suggestive corridor of Bougainville leads us to the spectacular view of the Ionian Sea, on the right we can admire Etna and on the left the Ancient Theatre of Taormina; the High Garden looks like an impressionist painter painting with brushstrokes of lilac, blue, white and silver. There is an inebriating citrus grove with fruit trees including lemons, mandarins, grapefruits, a Mexican white daisies and Frangipani. Finally, in the Belvedere and Ingrid Gardens an expanse of green lawn has been created, perfect for walking barefoot, framed by Jacaranda mimosifolia, the Coral Tree or Flame Tree, the Ceiba speciosa, Aloe Trees and silver palms. A magical place where illustrious writers, actors, nobility, industrial leaders and politicians have stayed and still today its guests can dream. The most seductive room, with a special terrace with swimming pool and breathtaking panoramic views, is the Royal Suite. The palate will be satisfied by the exquisite courses offered by many restaurants, a specialty is certainly the “RIGATONI WITH ANCHOVIES”.
