Osimo

Sulle colline interne delle marche, non distante dalla costa, c’è una cittadina ricca di storia, Osimo. I romani hanno lasciato molte testimonianze del loro passaggio, tra queste le mure e la Fonte Magna, un ninfeo risalente al I secolo a.C. Da vedere sono le “Statue senza testa”, 12 statue in marmo e pietra calcarea realizzate in epoca romana; tra le varie ipotesi si narra che le teste furono tagliate come atto di sfregio verso la città da parte del generale milanese Giangiacomo Trivulzio nel 1487 e da qui il curioso nome con cui vengono da allora chiamati gli Osimani: “i senza testa”. Il sottosuolo è costellato da gallerie e cunicoli, scavati in tempi molto antichi, e che videro il passaggio anche dei Cavalieri Templari. Un’altra curiosità, all’interno della Cattedrale vi è un crocifisso ligneo in stile arcaico del XIII sec. che dal 2 Luglio 1796 per diversi mesi aprì gli occhi e la bocca di fronte ad increduli testimoni. Naturalmente girare mette appetito e ad Osimo si possono gustare ottimi piatti sia di carne che di pesce, accompagnati da vini locali come la Passerina.

On the inland hills of the Marche region, not far from the coast, there is a town rich in history, Osimo. The Romans have left many testimonies of their passage, including the walls and the Fonte Magna, a nymphaeum dating back to the first century BC. Worth seeing are the “Headless Statues”, 12 marble and limestone statues made in Roman times; among the various hypotheses it is said that the heads were cut off as an act of disfigurement towards the city by the Milanese general Giangiacomo Trivulzio in 1487 and hence the curious name with which the Osimani have been called since then: “the headless”. The subsoil is dotted with tunnels and tunnels, dug in very ancient times, and which also saw the passage of the Knights Templar. Another curiosity, inside the Cathedral there is a wooden crucifix in archaic style of the thirteenth century which from July 2, 1796 for several months opened its eyes and mouth in front of incredulous witnesses. Of course, turning makes you hungry and in Osimo you can enjoy excellent dishes of both meat and fish, accompanied by local wine such as “Passerina”.
