Monaco National Day

Oggi, 19 Novembre, è la giornata più importante dell’anno per il Principato di Monaco. La festa nazionale, molto sentita da tutti i monegaschi, celebra sia l’indipendenza di Monaco come Stato Sovrano sia Sua Altezza Serenissima il Principe Regnante. I Grimaldi, proprietari della Rocca dal 1297, festeggiano questo importante anniversario fin dal 1734, inizialmente nel giorno dedicato al santo corrispondente al nome del principe regnante. Dal 2005 il Principe Alberto II la volle fissare il 19 novembre, giorno di Saint Rainier, in memoria del padre Principe Ranieri III.

In apertura delle celebrazioni si tiene una messa solenne di ringraziamento nella Cattedrale di Saint-Nicolas, poi la famiglia reale assiste alla cerimonia nel Cortile d’onore del Palazzo. Mentre in tutta Montecarlo si tengono manifestazioni, concerti ed eventi. Dopo la serata di Gala presso l‘Opera de Monte Carlo e la Prima della “Lucia di Lammermoor” di Donizetti, diretta dal Maestro Roberto Abbado, i festeggiamenti termineranno con un suggestivo spettacolo di fuochi d’artificio.

Today, the 19th of November, is the most important day for the Principality of Monaco. The national holiday, loved by all the Monegasques, celebrates the independence of Monaco as sovereign state and the Prince. The Grimaldi, owners of the Fortress since 1297, have been celebrating this important anniversary since 1734, initially on the day dedicated to the saint corresponding to the name of the reigning prince. Since 2005, Prince Albert II has been fixing it on the 19th of November, the Saint Rainier’s day, in memory of his father Prince Rainier III. At the opening of the celebrations there is a solemn Mass of thanksgiving in the Cathedral of Saint-Nicolas, then the royal family attends the ceremony in the Palace’s Courtyard of Honour. While in Monte Carlo there are events and concerts. In the night  the Gala and the premiere of Donizetti’s “Lucia di Lammermoor”, directed by Maestro Roberto Abbado, will take place at the Opera de Monte Carlo, directed by Maestro Roberto Abbado, the festivities will end with an evocative fireworks show.
