Casa verdi – Giornate Fai di primavera

Le giornate Fai di Primavera sono l’occasione ideale per scoprire luoghi, talvolta anche vicinissimi e davanti ai quali passiamo quotidianamente, ma che non abbiamo mai avuto l’occasione di visitare. Io abito a due passi da “Casa Verdi”, ci passo davanti spessissimo e non vi sono mai entrata, così ho colto al volo l’occasione offertami dal Fai. Giuseppe Verdi oltre a grandissimo musicista fu anche un grande e generoso uomo che volle creare, nel 1899, una casa di riposo per i musicisti, tutti coloro che hanno vissuto nella Musica, i loro coniugali o familiari. Chi può paga una retta e chi non può vi soggiorna gratuitamente grazie al lascito del maestro, ai diritti derivanti dalle sue opere e ai tantissimi benefattori; ogni ospite può portare con sé ciò che desidera, arredando la propria stanza a proprio gusto.

Davanti alla Casa di Riposo vi è la grande statua che ritrae un Verdi rilassato con le mani unite dietro a sé, sotto la giacca e guarda lontano; fu realizzata da Enrico Butti e inaugurata nel giorno del Centenario Verdiano, il 10 ottobre 1913. Pensate un tempo guardava la “Casa” stessa, ma dopo i lavori per la metropolitana fu rimontata nel verso sbagliato, qualcuno dice che fu perché così avrebbe guardato verso Busseto, suo paese d’origine. All’interno vi è anche la cripta nella quale vi è sepolto insieme alla moglie Giuseppina Strepponi.

Those who can pay a fee and those who cannot stay there for free thanks to the legacy of the master, the rights deriving from his works and the many benefactors; each guest can bring what he or she wants, furnishing the room as prefers. In front of the Retirement Home there is a big statue that portrays a relaxed Verdi with his hands joined behind him and under his jacket and looking away; it was built by Enrico Butti and inaugurated on the day of Verdi’s Centenary, the 10th of October 1913. Think once looked at the “House”, but after the works for the subway was reassembled in the wrong direction, someone says that it was because he would have looked towards Busseto, his country of origin. Inside there is also the crypt in which he is buried together with his wife Giuseppina Strepponi
